Commercial Construction is proud to mark this anticipated milestone: the official ribbon-cutting ceremony at the award-winning Hill House at Beechfield in Bowie, Maryland.
Hill House at Beechfield is a four-story, 150-unit affordable senior community serving residents 62 and older, built as a Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) project. Developed by KCG Companies and designed by Moseley Architects, the project was delivered three months ahead of schedule, with zero punch list items, despite major utility delays that left the site without permanent or temporary power for much of the build. Rather than wait, the Commercial Construction team researched, gained approval for, and deployed two large generators, coupling them with temporary HVAC units to maintain the precise temperature and humidity conditions required to install finishes throughout the building. That combination of problem-solving, teamwork, and craftsmanship earned Hill House the 2026 Construction Excellence Award from the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development.

The ceremony brought together elected officials, development partners, housing advocates, and of course, the residents who now call Hill House home.
Jonathan Bond of the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development spoke to the needs this project fills in Prince George’s County. “Without affordable, stable housing, our seniors typically have to choose between housing, food, and medicine.”
Prince George’s County Executive Aisha Braveboy spoke directly to the new residents with respect and reverence. “Everybody in Prince George’s County deserves to live with dignity at every age and at every ability in life. Looking at a place like this, I’m thinking, ‘When can I move in?'”
The most heartwarming moment of the day belonged to resident Marsha Hubbard, who shared the journey that brought her and her mother to Hill House. “One afternoon, my mother and I were driving near my sister’s house in Bowie, and we saw the sign for Hill House at Beechfield Apartments. I made the right onto Traditions Boulevard, and I fell in love.” After years of searching, waiting lists, and paperwork, Marsha and her mother were finally able to sign their lease last fall as the building’s second tenants. But Marsha was not done. She brought out a display board and has already helped organize an informal event planning group with her neighbors.
“We saw a need, and we decided to fill it,” she said. “Ain’t no stopping us now!” She closed by turning to the crowd of officials, partners, and guests: “Welcome to my new home.”
That is what Hill House at Beechfield is. Not just a completed project. A community, already in motion.
