Commercial Group Partners with Develop Africa to Support Computer Training in Sierra Leone

Commercial Group recently donated essential technology equipment to Develop Africa, a non-profit organization dedicated to expanding educational and technological access across the continent. This contribution, which includes laptops, monitors, iPads, iPhones, computer mice, and chargers, will directly support computer literacy and vocational training programs in Sierra Leone.

This initiative was spearheaded by Commercial Group’s own IT Specialist, Michael Bai-Attilla, who has a personal attachment to this mission.

“I met Develop Africa at a “Sierra Leoneans in Tech (SLinT)” conference, where a colleague introduced me to their CEO, Sylvester Renner. After learning more about their work and reflecting on my own experience growing up in Sierra Leone with access to private education and technology, I felt compelled to support their efforts. As I standardized our IT asset processes at Commercial Group, I saw an opportunity to donate our retired laptops, iPads, iPhones, and accessories to our E Waste initiative. With support from our IT and Admin Assistant, Gilles P. Dongmo, we coordinated the donation to help empower the next generation in Sierra Leone.”

For many students served by Develop Africa, these training sessions represent their first hands-on exposure to computer work. In this age of technology, basic digital skills are becoming essential for school assignments and job applications. These tools provide a critical foundation for independence and future employment.

Develop Africa expressed deep appreciation for the investment in their students’ futures:

“Partnerships like this make a measurable impact. A monitor is not just a screen. A laptop is not just hardware. These tools represent opportunity, access, and growth. We are grateful to Commercial Group for investing in education and equipping students with resources that will serve them well beyond the classroom. Together, we can continue expanding access to technology and practical education.”
