Commercial Utilities Celebrates the “Piping Out” of Greenmount Avenue Conduit Project

Commercial Utilities with partner KCI Technologies and the Baltimore City Department of Transportation (DOT) celebrated the placement of the last conduit pipe in the Greenmount Avenue Conduit Rehabilitation Project with a ‘piping out’ ceremony on June 3rd. The final pipe was painted gold and signed by all who contributed to the project.

The pipe tied together the 1.25 mile, 28-way Greenmount Avenue duct bank constructed over the last 24 months. The placement of this pipe completed the 185,000 linear feet of duct installed on this project, which also included 27 rebuilt and new manholes.

Construction of the underground facilities, including new water mains and conduits, was coordinated between City agencies to be completed ahead of the scheduled Streetscape Project, which provides new surface improvements from 29th Street to 43rd Street.

The conduit work along the Greenmount Avenue Corridor strengthens the reliability of a system and infrastructure that had exceeded its useful life. It will help continue to meet power and broadband requirements in the City.
