Our Director of Safety Making a Difference

Gary Matthews, SMTC, OSHT, and Director of Safety and Community Engagement for Commercial Construction uses his time and talent to support others. This time it is as a mentor for Blacks in Safety Excellence (BISE), a committee of the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP).

For over a year, Gary has been mentoring 29-year-old D’Angelo Marshall 3 times a week at 6:00 am for 2 hours on safety and how to integrate it at all times on the job site. Mr. Marshall credits Gary for his inspiration, advice, and professionalism in supporting him with projects such as developing a safety manual. “I could not be happier for being paired with Gary. He is an exceptional professional, a great leader, an outstanding mentor, and an even better man. I know I am in good hands and this is only the beginning!”

Gary was honored by D’Angelo’s praise and is grateful to witness his growth and development. “D’Angelo is my inspiration as I remember when I started out and was eager to learn. The relationship is mutually beneficial as I am getting just as much as I am giving.”
